The Star Gallery (formerly the Star Brewery workshops and studios building) is set in the heart
of historic Lewes, the county town of Sussex and is overlooked by the impressive ruins of a
Norman castle. Established in its current form in 1989, the gallery attracts a variety of skilled artists
and craftsmen and features a series of creative workshops and studios. There are regular exhibitions
of contemporary art held in the gallery and popular craft fairs. The pottery is thriving, a friendly hive of
activity, with an integral exhibition area and shop.
The Star Gallery enjoys a reputation as a leading regional gallery, having exhibited work by artists of international stature such as Miro, Paula Rego, Julian Opie, David Gerstein and Lee Miller. Star Gallery specialises in solo artist shows and has previously exhibited distinguished local artists such as Julian Bell, Michael Cooper, Gary Goodman, Peter Messer, Harold Mockford, Nick Bodimeade and sculptor Marcus Cornish. Star Gallery also holds collections of David Gerstein wall sculptures and Julian Opie art works: further information regarding these collections can be obtained from Hayley Brown. | |
